Gamaray update – Open Gamaray Project

I haven’t blogged for some time. Can’t do the same things, day after day, without taking a break, some times.

So, for anyone interested in what happened to Gamaray, after it was terminated by Clayton Lilly, its creator, here is the update.

After about 3 weeks deliberation, Clayton was kind enough to release his client code and I have created a new SourceForge open source project, under the GNU GPL license, called Open Gamaray Project. I have uploaded both Clayton’s Java client code and some .Net server-side code, that I have contributed, myself. This is a library for generation of gddf (gamaray dimension definition format) files, programmatically. It considerably eases the flexible development of games and tools for the Gamaray platform.

I have no idea if this project will have legs and run, but it’s worth a try. Lots of us don’t like the idea of the market being dominated by Layar and Mobilizy, with their proprietory systems (so far). I believe that augmented reality needs such a playground for serious developers with no commercial interest in mind. If I get no support, eventually, I will just close it down. Nothing ventured – nothing gained.

Anyone with any useful skills, please request inclusion in the project from me. I will be happy to give access for any serious developer to the developer’s forum, upload permissions etc.
