A CMS is a way of building a web-site that allows for visitors to a site to make changes to the content of the site, without the need of a third-party webmaster. The letters stand for ‘Content Management System’, which speaks for itself.
It is one thing to create a web-site and configure it correctly, deploy it and secure it, which is the job of a professional. It is quite another to edit, add, delete or otherwise change the content of the pages. It should never be necessary for a webmaster or any third party to be involved in this process, if the site is built correctly, in the first place.
Using a CMS, a site owner, contributor, editor or even members of the public, with permission, may change the content of parts of the site, using a relatively simple, web-based editor that appears in their browser. Pages can be

Well, of course, if you’ve been living on Mars, for many years and are not familiar with the way in which sites are constructed, you should first become familiar with the Web, checking out which sites work well and which seem to have features and/or design, that you would like to see your own site emulating.
Many people consider, first, graphics or the content. Sometimes, they even think of the gadgets, like video and sharing modules, but this is not the best place to begin.
Forget the details and think of the structure.
Can you think, also, about the structure of the site. This is even more important to consider, before starting construction, than the graphics and certainly more important than the content in detail. By structure, I mean what pages – articles and other items, like contact page, web links page etc., that there will be.

A customer has asked me about the fonts used on a particular page of their site. I had to answer that I was sorry to say that it isn’t that simple and the following is a little complex, but explains everything that you need to know about the use of fonts and styles in modern HTML.
What you have to understand, first, is that HTML is very unlike something like Word. If you make a Word document, you are certain that the end-user has the same fonts , installed on their machine as you do, since both have Word (or a Word viewer) installed. However, with HTML, universality is the key. It has to work on any system and we don’t know what is installed on that end-user’s system.
Did you ever set a non-default zoom level or text-size, in your browser? Not everyone is viewing it (especially these days)

I recently found myself with a huge amount of investigative work, to find out all I could, about a customer of mine’s hacked web-site.
Of course, I didn’t exclude myself as a possible cause of the problem. Neither did I exclude my client, her assistant, a rogue employee of the hosting service or a remote third party. In order to make sure that the site was safe, I just had to investigate, as well as take all other necessary security measures.
It all began with a mail from the client, on 8th January, that the hosting service had ‘detected unusual FTP activity’ from a named FTP account and that they had deleted the account. I told the client that I never heard of that account and that this was, in fact, suspicious, as the hosting service had suggested. The client informed me “ok I am on it…”, so I left

Only in recent years, has Sir Tim Berners-Lee’s 1980s vision, and subsequent decades of work with the World Wide Web Consortium, finally found its footing, in the main-stream.
With the introduction of technology, that has facilitated what is now known as “Web 2.0”, tools like social networking sites, twitter, blogging etc. are in the hands of everyone.
Now, the introduction of what is called “cloud computing” – the moving of data into the cloud of online systems that store it, as an alternative to local disk storage – is also available to everyman. The data is processed, “in the cloud” by powerful server machines that deliver the processed data back to the user, through the web browser.
Harnessing the power is not anywhere near as complex as it sounds, provided you have the assistance required from an expert professional service, such as Goaheadspace, Amsterdam.
“We only seem tall because
